Go Bum - Overview
Go Bum is what the gamemakers have described as a cheeky version of Go Fish. This game is really just a simple version of the classic children’s card game where you match cards to create pairs. At the end of the game, the player with the most pairs wins.
We first road-tested this game with adults the first time around. While the game was fun and had a good laugh the first time around, it’s definitely a game designed for younger kids. It definitely does play better in a group with younger kids (probably best in the 5-12 year old age bracket), with plenty of laughs and fun for the family.
Game Authors Note
Normally, on this website, we don’t shout out much about the game author, but the Authors of Go Bum definitely deserve a shout-out. From our own home city of Sydney, Australia, father and son duo Evan and Levi created Go Bum themselves for a school project. The best part is that proceeds from the sale of Go Bum go to Koala conservation, so far over $3000. Read more on their website here.
How to Play Go Bum
- Shuffle the deck so that it is well shuffled. This game won’t work if the deck is not well shuffled.
- Deal cards to each player in the game. For two/three players, deal seven cards each; for four/five players, then deal five cards.
- At any point, if you receive a stinky bum card that is worth negative one card and must immediately be placed in front of you. You cannot match this card.
- Place the remaining card in the deck face down in the middle of all the players.
- Going around the table, each player asks another player if they have a certain type of bum card. For example, they can ask “Do you have a spotty bum?” (and yes, the game makers have designed this game to be cheeky and give you a chuckle). IMPORTANT: You can only ask for cards you already have in your hand.
- If the player is asked if they have a certain type of bum does, in fact, have that bum in their hand, then they must pass it to the player asking. This will result in a player asking to get a match which they put in front of them.
- If the player getting asked does not have the type of bum a player is asking for, they must say “Go Bum”. In this case, the player asking must go to the deck in the middle of the table and pick up a card.
- Play continues in order, with each player receiving a go one after the other.
- If a player runs out of cards, they can pick up two new cards from the deck. If there are no cards to pick up, then you can’t pick up any cards, and your turn in the game is done.
- The game is finished when all matches have been played.

Go Bum - Honest Review
This game is not too different from Go Fish, but it definitely has a lot more laughs than the original version, making it a little more fun to play on repeat than the original. You can also add the optional rules for even more fun. This game is well put together in terms of quality, with nice graphics and good size high quality playing cards. This is a great game as a gift for young families who appreciate something unique and need easy to learn games.
Obviously, there is not much to this review compared to some of the other reviews on our website, but given that there is not much to this game, and it is short and simple, we have kept our review the same. If nothing else, this game is worth buying to support local game makers giving back to the community.
